Here you will find photos of Mindling family activities, with occasional "serious" work thrown in. Comments to mindling@comcast.net. Please also visit www.TonyMindling.com to see more of my work, and to inquire about photograph sales.
- Bud's La Salle
A chip-sealed road that winds up and down across creeks, through oaks, and past ponds leads to Bud's Automotive. His wife is an energetic gardener, so a visit to our mechanic is also like a visit to a botanical garden. One of the fine things about this Foothill life that we are grateful for.
- Eagle Lake Photos
- Family
Hilda is off for a weekend with "The Girls", and we have pulled together some family snaps for show-and-tell. Certainly not everyone is here, but they will be added "in the fullness of time".
- Graegle "Extras"

Selects from the cover shoot with models John Williamson, his son-in-law Aaron, and grandsons Adin and Spencer. All taken at the Highway 89 bridge over the Feather River at Graegle on Sunday, October 23, 2011
- Happy birthday Mabel!
Mabel Wilhelmina Metze was born September 24, 1907, and was one of my Dad Leo's many first cousins. She was daughter of Rose Mindling Metze, who was my grandfather John's sister. Rose and two other sisters, Olive and Anna, and three brothers, John, Carl, and Louis, grew up on a farm in Ohio.

- From Behind the Glass - Roadside Chiapas, 2006
These photos were shot more-or-less from the hip during a trip to Oaxaca and Chiapas in 2006. I photographed as we were travelling in the tour van whenever something outside caught my eye. Looking back at these images from six years ago, it seemed that an abstract treatment was fitting for that parallel universe captured in thousandths of a second fragments as it reeled past the glass windows.
- 2011-02-11-Beyond Cool
A photo ramble up to Georgetown, then following the foothill roads down through Garden Valley and Greenwood.

Sunday Morning at the Mindling's
- 2010.11.27 - The Little Red Squirrel
This tiny guy has frequently distracted me from my work (whatever that might be) today. Especially when he leaps from the metal railing to the bird feeder, clings frantically for a moment, then, just before slipping off and dropping to the concrete 15 feet below, somehow makes it back to the railing. An impressive aerialist.

More and more when we leave home we wonder if it will still be there when we return. This one was in the American River Canyon, just above the confluence of the North and Middle Forks.
- Eric and the Girls Visit
A warm weather visit with lots of splashing
- Plumas County Ramble
If you happen to be in Chico, your mind occupied by daily cares, find your way to the Deer Creek Highway, State Route 32. As you wind out of the hot valley into the cool mountains, through the woods and past that clear water, your mind will begin to clear and you notice the clean scent of Jeffrey pines. By the time you arrive in Chester in Plumas County you will be grinning. Find some fruit at a produce stand, a gift for your lady in one of the shops. If not there, perhaps down the way at the potters studio in Clear Creek, or an antique shop in Greenville. Listen to the red-winged blackbirds claim their territory along a quiet byway in Indian Valley. And then cruise on home, tension abated, a day well spent.

- Mendocino
Our week on the coast was very relaxing. Haven't been that mellow for quite some time. We had all of the coastal weather - sun that prompted shedding of the long-sleeved pullovers as we sat in our old spot on the Russian Gulch bluff with our snacks and books, wisps of fog creeping into the bays until it completely closed us in for a day, then more sun, then a fine day and night of rain while we hunkered in and read. And finally a bright, crisp, fall day to bring us home through Boonville and Philo where the Anderson Valley grape vines still showed colors from yellow to wine red. We saw a nice play at the little theater in Mendocino, paddled up the river past heron, seals, otters, and osprey into the sun where we lunched on a warm grassy bank, then down with the tide into the fog to BBQ marinaded pork chops from Mendosa's, read, and drift off to sleep to the sound of the surf and the bell buoy guarding Van Damme Cove.

Robert Frost (1874ā1963). Mountain Interval. 1920.
1. The Road Not Taken
TWO roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and Iā
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

- Camping at Blue Lakes and Russian Gulch
Our early days of trailer camping. Grandpa and Grandma Tallitsch had a trailer then, too. Here we are on a couple of trips we took together - one to Blue Lakes in September 1956, and then off to Russian Gulch on the Mendocino Coast in May of 1957. For the Blue Lakes trip I had borrowed from my high school camera club a camera called an Exa - a German-made 35mm single lens reflex. I was entranced with the image through the pentaprism, showing exactly what the lens saw - and the next year ordered an Exacta VXIIA with my summer earnings. The camera was shipped from Switzerland to the folks bank, which had been holding the payment pending its safe arrival. Probably the most exiting purchase of my lifetime.

- Dad's 1948 Slides
Kodachromes taken with the Argus C-3. I can still hear the fan of the little projector and remember the exciting odor of the screen that unrolled from Dad's tabletop slide projection setup, and looking at the slides one by one in the dining room on Mirabella Street.
